After a little more than a month as an intern at K2, I’ve learned that a real-world job doesn’t have to be as scary as it sounds. Coming out of my freshman year in college, I realized that finding a job can be overwhelming and terrifying. I was second-guessing myself and if I was going to be able to take on the challenges of work beyond the classroom. As soon as I started at K2, those thoughts changed.

Right away as I jumped in, I had a whole team of people wishing for my success and willing to help me whenever I needed it. Since then, I have taken on crucial jobs for our clients, like doing daily clips for candidates, creating social calendars, writing press releases and blogs, and even working on recruitment projects.

Getting into a routine and holding myself accountable are big takeaways, as seemingly little things like daily news clips are tools our clients rely on every day to be up to date with the latest information. Exploring different styles of writing has bettered my understanding of text organization as well as writing in a voice that is not necessarily my own. As for social media, I have had a blast exploring the different ways to come across people’s feeds and how to reach said people in a more meaningful way. The projects I work on throughout the week have a real impact, they can shift thought processes and give a voice to people who feel they do not have one.

Working with the K2 team has also improved my communication skills. I have become comfortable with reaching out to people I may not know or sending emails to candidates and their teams. I have learned the importance of working well with others and how a good team always produces good outcomes. I am certain that all of these skills will be helpful in my future in the career world.

I am so thankful for K2 and the experiences they have given me. Because of them, I have grown as a person and an employee. I have formed connections to last a lifetime and realized that work can be exciting. I am thrilled to see what the summer holds for my partnership with K2, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all the people that I get to work with.
