We worked with a national issue advocacy organization to build support for crime victims’ rights in two strategically important states in the upper Midwest. The cause had won overwhelming public support via a ballot initiative years before. However, support had frayed, good will had dried up, and negative attention from the media and powerful interest groups threatened to derail the entire initiative nationally. We were faced with a difficult task, but we assessed the best strategies to build public support.

We recruited long-term allies that could lend their voice to the cause. Further, through careful and strategic cultivation over a period of months, we found diverse advocates. We recruited them to join the cause and strategically dispatched them to build more public support.

Lastly, as with any successful public affairs endeavor, we started from the ground up. Ultimately, we built a robust and durable coalition to support the initiative. Thus, where others failed, we were successful; because of our persistence, outside the box strategic thinking and relationship-building skills. These were all vital to winning support for an important cause in a challenging environment.
